About the Author:

Michael Ryan is a professor of communication at the University of Houston. He received a B.A. degree in government and an M.A. in journalism, both at the University of Texas at Austin, and a Ph.D. in journalism at Southern Illinois University. He worked at the San Angelo, Texas, Standard-Times, the Southern Illinoisan in Carbondale, Ill. and Long News Service, a capitol news bureau in Austin. He co-authored Basic News Reporting (1977), and has authored or co-authored nearly 100 scholarly and professional journal articles. His research interests include ethics in journalism and public relations, relationships between journalists and public relations practitioners, media professionals’ use of the World Wide Web and research quality and ethics in academic research. He has taught journalism and public relations writing for more than 30 years.
