About the Author:

Dr. Denise McLurkin is an assistant professor in the Childhood Education Program at the City College of New York-CUNY. She is a former classroom teacher and supervisor of student teachers. She holds a B.A. in Psychology from the University of California, Irvine, a M.S. in Counseling Psychology from California Baptist University, a M.A. in Literacy Education and a doctorate in Educational Studies in the Literacy, Language and Cultures Program from the University of Michigan.
