This Proceedings contains the papers presented at the 5th IFAC Conference on Manoeuvring and Control of Marine Craft, held in Aalborg, Denmark, on 23-25 August 2000.
The conference attracted more papers than any of the previous events in this series of meetings. The Proceedings contains three plenary papers from key international speakers, on the topics of nonlinear ship control, fault detection and resolution in AUVs, and control of the human element. Altogether there are over 60 papers covering recent progress in all areas of this growing research area. Topics covered include, but are not limited to: application of new theory on manoeuvring related problems for surface ships, and the complex manoeuvring control and sensor problems for autonomous underwater vehicles. Underwater activity is clearly a hot international topic, as shown by the fact that over one third of the conference sessions were dedicated solely to this issue. Non-linear control, motion control, autopilots and path control, high-speed vessels, modelling, information systems and offshore systems are other areas where there is considerable activity, as shown by the large range of topics covered by the papers in the Proceedings.
