From School Library Journal

PreSchool-Grade 2 An amusing story of developing friendship that shows the futility of arguing and brutality. Two monsters live on opposite sides of a mountainone of them is round and blue with a crew cut and large teeth, and the other is round and red with spikes on his head and a pointed tail. Neither monster can see the other, but the blue on the west side can see the sun departing and the red on the east sees the night arriving. One day their differing viewpoints cause a fight and name-calling between them. The name-calling leads to rock throwing, then boulder throwing. With each throw a little bit more of the mountain top is knocked off until the mountain is smashed flat and the monsters see each other. They also see the same view of the sky and sit down to watch the sunset together. This is a story that can be used as a funny monster story and accepted at face value or as a vehicle for discussion about friendship. Illustrations are colorful, bold and simple. The monsters stay the same color throughout, but the mountain changes constantly to reflect the colors of the sunrise and sunset, ending in a warm pinkish-purple with the two new friends sitting together.Nancy A.
