William Blake (1757–1827) was a poet and artist largely unrecognized during his lifetime. He often used etchings to illustrate his own collections of poems, which included Europe: A Prophecy (1794), Milton (1811), and Poetical Sketches (1783). Patti Smith is a musician, songwriter, and poet, and her titles include Auguries of Innocence, Babel, and The Coral Sea.

"The poems of a man with a profound interest in human emotions, and a profound knowledge of them." —T.S. Eliot
