Detective Alex Cross is planning his wedding to the woman he loves, Brianna Stone. But this blissful existence begins to unravel when Cross is called to the scene of the perfectly executed assassination of two of Washington DC's most corrupt and publically hated political figures. As more crooked politicians are picked off with similar long-range shots, public opinion is divided - is the marksman a vigilante or a hero? Media coverage of the case explodes, and the FBI assigns agent Max Siegel to the investigation. As Cross and Siegel battle over jurisdiction, Alex receives a call from his deadliest adversary, Kyle Craig. The Mastermind is in DC and will not stop until he has eliminated Cross, and his family, for good.

JAMES PATTERSON is one of the best-known and biggest-selling writers of all time. He is the author of some of the most popular series of the past decade - the Alex Cross, Women's Murder Club and Detective Michael Bennett novels - and he has written many other number one bestsellers including romance novels and stand-alone thrillers. He lives in Florida with his wife and son. James is passionate about encouraging children to read. Inspired by his own son who was a reluctant reader, he also writes a range of books specifically for young readers. James has formed a partnership with the National Literacy Trust, an independent, UK-based charity that changes lives through literacy. In 2010, he was voted Author of the Year at the Children's Choice Book Awards in New York. From AudioFile:
The prolific Patterson and two fine narrators score a bull's-eye with this 17th Alex Cross adventure. Finally, Alex is going to marry Bree, but the wedding is delayed when snipers begin picking off high-profile characters in Washington. While Cross is jousting with FBI agent Max Siegle, his archenemy Kyle Craig has escaped again and is close at hand. The production is first-rate, and the musical background is perfectly placed for emphasis. Praise is due to Jay O. Sanders for his clear, crisp narration and to Andre Braugher for his accents and believable characterizations. Best of all, Patterson's ending suggests possible new beginnings--maybe even a crossover with another of his favorite characters. A.L.H. © AudioFile 2011, Portland, Maine
