About the Author:
Charlotte, Emily, and Anne Brontė were taught at home and together created vivid fantasy worlds which they explored in their writing. In 1846, the three sisters published Poems under the names Currer, Ellis, and Acton Bell, then went on to enjoy individual success with their writing. Charlotte Brontė's (1816–1855) first novel, The Professor, was initially rejected by publishers, so Jane Eyre became Charlotte's first published novel in 1847, followed by Shirley in 1849 and Villette in 1853. Anne Brontė (1820–1849) published Agnes Grey in 1847 and The Tenant of Wildfell Hall in 1848. Emily Brontė (1818–1848) published Wuthering Heights in 1847.
Review:
"At the end we are steeped through and through with the genius, the vehemence, the indignation of Charlotte Brontė."  —Virginia Woolf on Jane Eyre
