When the wind blows away her favorite hat, Rose, her friend Archie, and an assortment of animals chase the elusive hat all over the countryside
"synopsis" may belong to another edition of this title.
One day the wind blows away Rose's favorite hat as she chases a cat. Then Archie comes by and rescues it from the house roof, only to have it blow off again. It is rescued several more times, but always manages to fly off just before Rose gets it back. Finally it lands in a monkey puzzle tree that no one can climb. A bird then lands and makes the hat a nest, which pleases Rose, even as "a tear went trickling down her nose." Her animal friends give her a beautiful new hat with a ribbon under the chin so the hat "won't go. . .when the wind starts to blow." This predictable story features a chase involving a cat, dog, cow, boy, birds, rabbit, and kangaroo. Bright watercolors enhance the story, which is told in forced rhyme. Except for Rose, the characters are anthropomorphized animals, which gives an artificial appearance to an otherwise enjoyable, quiet picture book. --Nancy A. Gifford, Schenectady County Pub .
