In May 2000, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAFF) announced that some of the conventional rapeseed sold by Advanta Seeds UK contained about one per cent genetically modified rapeseed. The seed was sown in 1999 and 2000 in several member states of the EU, including the UK, raising many issues relating to segregation, regulation and testing. The inquiry explored the implications for segregation of the incident with recommendations for improving the procedures for avoiding such incidents in the future.
