In this volume the application of biofeedback and other techniques of behavioral medicine are explored in detail with respect to these important areas of neurology: the management of seizures in epileptics for whom anticonvulsant medications has not proved satisfactory for adequate seizure control, the diagnosis and treatment of specific learning disabilities, and the hyper kinetic syndrome in children. These areas represent syndromes for which no single approach has been clearly satisfactory. Although the traditional medical approach has helped tremendously to bring epilepsy under control, of the 2.5 million epileptics in America, 20% are not helped by multiple anticonvulsants. This volume presents an extensive analysis of recent findings (ca 1981) that show that biofeedback combined with behavioral approaches has begun to pave the way for a much more comprehensive treatment of these three important neurological problems.
