Even Betty Crocker is cooking Southwest food. Of course, some of it is quite good, and there are both respectable renditions of traditional dishes and some interesting new ones--Chipotle Fettuccine with Smoked Turkey, Sea Bass in Cilantro. Huntley Dent's The Feast of Sante Fe ( LJ 3/15/85) and Anne Lindsay Greer's books, including Cuisine of the American Southwest ( LJ 9/15/83), are among the best in this area, but home cooks seeking a simpler introduction may choose this an an alternative to Sunset's popular Mexican Cook Book (Sunset: Lane, 1977).
