From the Back Cover:

Here is an exciting year-round collection of ready-to-use lessons and activities that connect people, places and events of the past with the present-day English curriculum in a meaningful way. Included are over 800 practical and interesting learning activities that appeal to all learning styles and ability levels and are easily adapted to any program or text.

You'll find these lessons and activities offer an ideal way to introduce authors, organized units of study, promote multicultural awareness, and celebrate historical achievements. They will help you expand existing lesson plans, create new lesson plans, and correlate English with history and social studies and other content areas.

For easy use, materials are organized into ten monthly sections, September through June, and printed in a big 8-1/4" x 11" spiral-bound format that folds flat for photocopying of any student activity sheet as many times as needed. Each month includes six sections:

  • Etymology: Origin, holidays, gemstone, flower and poem of the month
  • Birthdays: Birthdates of writers and other celebrities students can relate to
  • Memorable Events: Listing of events, from historical to zany, such as Dec. 28- Chewing gum patented by Ohio dentist William F. Semple in 1869; Mar. 14— Save a Spider Day; Jun: 18— Sally Ride became first woman in space, 1983
  • Learning Activities: Five types of activities— nearly 100 per month— in the areas of reading, debating, writing, discussion and audio-visual— that can be used in sequence as part of thematic units or as individual lessons on any subject
  • Reproducibles: Full-page reproducibles related to specific learning activities that can be photocopied as many times as needed for your class
  • Answer Key: Answers for all of the student activity sheets that month
Following is just a sampling of the reproducible activities you'll find each month:
