Quick Reference to the 2001 FDA Model Food Code is an abridged version of the original 2001 FDA Model Food Code that contains the "Regulatory Sections" in a simplified, outline format. This Quick Reference edition is meant to provide a handy reference for anyone working in food service, retailing, wholesaling, manufacturing, or in various aspects of public health, who may need a portable and easy-to-reference version of the food code.
Since 1993, the United States Food & Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a bi-annual update of the Model Food Code for use in Food Service Establishments. The latest version, the 2001 FDA Model Food Code, was released for public use via Internet access in December, 2001. Each revision reflects the input of the many professionals intimately involved in assuring Food Safety. The frequent revision process assures that the Model Food Code reflects the best 'Science' in response to current food safety challenges.
One of the major strengths of the recent published versions of the Code is also one of the biggest drawbacks preventing ease of use.
The Code is formatted in an outline format, large type, wide left margins (for note taking), and on 8 1/2" X 11" paper. The resulting document is a hefty 'phone-book' sized text more suitable for a desk reference than for use in a working Retail Food Service operation. In addition, the published Code contains valuable 'Annex Chapters' that are also more suitable for a desk reference volume.
The 'Quick Reference to 2001 FDA Model Food Code' addresses the
All attempt was made to present the Code as published (in spite of the copy editor's best-efforts to correct the errors contained in the original). The 'Quick Reference to 2001 FDA Model Code' is meant to provide a convenient format and under no circumstances is meant to be used in lieu of the published Code.
A companion desk reference text, "Keyword Index and Quick Reference Guide to 2001 FDA Model Food Code," containing over 25, 000+ keywords and phrases within the code, is also available.
