This easy-to-read book emphasizes how to use basic economic theory and where to apply it to international economic issues. It empowers readers to understand the international economics they will encounter in business publications such as the Wall Street Journal, and to use international economics to make business decisions. The first half of the book covers international trade, factor movements, and trade and economic development; the final ten chapters on international finance can be divided into at least three parts: national income accounting and exchange rate determination; purchasing power parity and the real exchange rate; and open economy macroeconomics. A useful reference for government officials dealing with international trade and finance issues, and for private citizens who want to learn more about the effect of international economics on business in the 21st century.

From the Back Cover:

Addressing the changing face of economics education, Sawyer and Sprinkle's International Economics takes a thoroughly modern approach to the subject. This text provides a discussion of international economics that is more accessible to a wider range of students than is currently available in any other text. The authors shift the emphasis from teaching pure theory to the application of theory by using some of the most basic tools of economic analysis.

  • Written for a Broader Range of Students. The authors address the topics at a level appropriate for a variety of majors in business or international relations, as well as for economics majors.
  • Basic Tools of Analysis. Students can analyze international economics with the same tools learned in principles of economics courses.
  • Asset Allocation. The text incorporates a modern asset allocation approach to open economy macroeconomics.
  • Chapter on Intra-Industry Trade. Extensive coverage of a growing phenomenon that constitutes 40 percent of world trade.
  • Web Support. Students can visit the book Web site at www.prenhall.com/sawyer for Web exercises and take practice quizzes and receive immediate feedback.
