Clifford E. Dykstra taught at Indiana University–Purdue University, Indianapolis, from 1990 to 2006 and was named Chancellor's Professor in 2001. He was Chairman of the Department of Chemistry at Illinois State University from 2006 to 2009 and is currently Adjunct Professor of Chemistry at the University of Illinois at Urbana. He is the author of several other books, including Introduction to Quantum Chemistry.
