This is an updated version of a book first published in 1981. With its focus on all types of retail stores, this book fills a gap in the small business literature. Aimed at potential or new shopkeepers, its coverage is broad; every conceivable aspect of running a store is at least touched upon. Each chapter contains a current bibliography which includes relevant Small Business Administration publications. The many footnotes, statistics, and charts make this slow reading but a valuable resource. Burstiner is careful to discuss many methods of handling problems. A solid choice for business collections.
