Written by a team of medical experts, this book is filled with ways to improve overall physical and mental health. It is not, as the title might suggest, a discussion of specific illnesses and diseases. It is easy to read and highlights contemporary health issues. Part 1 focuses on how to develop and maintain a healthy lifestyle. The topics cover the gamut from the effect of aging on health, to learning to relax, to the risks of smoking, alcohol, and drugs on health, to having a healthy sex life. Each page has color photographs with informational inserts. Part 2 is about personal appearance and how it affects self-esteem and relationship with others. The publisher refers to this as a reference book, but it will be best placed in public library general health collections. --Barbara J. Doherty, Evanston Hosp. Lib., Ill.
