Grade 1-3 Good friends Mandy and Mimi return, this time wanting to take ``Super Child'' activity classes on Wednesday afternoons. They can't choose between ballet (Mandy's dream) or gymnastics (Mimi's choice). After an angry shouting match, the friends decide to give each other's choices a try and then decide which class they'll take. The calm, mature way the friends decide on separate activities in spite of wanting to be together, realizing it doesn't mean the end of their friendship, is realistically handled, and a nice touch. Although the neatness of the resolution seems a bit pat, the feelings of dejection and elation, as well as the best-friends' intensity, ring true. M & M lack that spark of personality that Barbara Porte's ``Harry'' (Greenwillow) has, but they are still two of the few ``real live kid'' characters in very easy fiction; those who've become M & M fans will gobble this one up, too.
