FLAVIUS JOSEPHUS (A.D. 37 – ca. 94), priest, soldier, scholar, was born Joseph ben Mattathias in Jerusalem. In his 20s he was sent to Rome to negotiate with Nero the release of Jewish prisoners, but returned to a Judaea seething with revolt. He reluctantly assumed command of Jewish rebels, even though he considered the cause hopeless. At Jotapata he was taken captive by Vespasian but so impressed him and his son, Titus, that he was freed. He spent the remainder of the war as an eyewitness to events and tried in vain to negotiate a peaceful settlement to the siege of Jerusalem. When Vespasian became Emperor, he adopted Josephus into his family and thus "Flavius Josephus" spent his remaining years as a court scholar.
CHARLTON GRIFFIN is one of the great readers of our time. His classical theatre training combined with his wonderful, incisive interpretations of great literature make him a unique talent. Mr. Griffin's vocal performance is vibrant, soothing, compelling, and hypnotic. Among other honors, he has twice received the Audie Award for Classic Fiction.
