Kindergarten-Grade 2 Following the by-now familiar format of the earlier Finger Rhymes (1980), Hand Rhymes (1985), and Play Rhymes (1987, all Dutton), and aimed at slightly older children, this collection of 12 standard action songs invites group participation. Included are such chestnuts as "Farmer in the Dell," "A-tisket, A-tasket," "In and Out the Window," and "Fox in a Box," most available elsewhere but not all under one cover. Circled and boxed sketches show some of the movements, but this collection relies more on verbal instructions than the previous books do. All are comprehensible and manageable to small children with adult intervention. The hallmark playfulness of this artist's work is present here, with stylized forms and muted colors in a wide but harmonious palette in the manner of Tomie dePaola. Lots of fun here, with the music, and all verses, appended. Karen Litton, Confederation Centre Public Library, Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada
