Flossie the sheep takes off to enjoy a rollicking day at the fair, with Jack the shepherd boy in hot pursuit

PreSchool-K Set in the British countryside, this original tale in rhyme about young lazy Jack and his mischievous sheep, Flossie, resembles traditional English folk rhymes. While Jack sleeps in the hay, Flossie sets out for the fair. The angry farmer and Jack track Flossie to the miller's, where she hides in the flour. Discovered, the ewe is off to a bridge from which she jumps into a boat, floats to town, causes a ruckus in the market, and finds the fair. Flossie climbs a slide, leaps into a passing hay wagon and disappears. Just when Jack gives up and returns to the pasture, the sheep leaps from the passing wagon. Watercolors outlined with black ink capture the landscapes of the countryside, the architecture of the town, the liveliness of the fair, and variety of clothing worn by the country- and townspeople. However, the text is awkward when the voices change. Answers to questions posed to readers about Flossie's whereabouts are found in the illustrations. An additional tale for story hours.
