I saw that children who have ready access to storybooks get excited about reading. They also make noticeably greater gains in reading comprehension. The development of the Hello Reading stories grows out of this experience (Harriet Ziefert, New York University School of Education). XX [Gallery Henoch on the artist Mavis Smith]: Mavis Smith (b. 1956, Trenton, NJ) studied art and design at the Pratt Institute in New York and completed her studies in 2002 at the Seattle Academy of Fine Art. She is the author and illustrator of many children's books, including the popular Fluffy the Classroom Guinea Pig series. In recent years, Smith has been focusing on her paintings, specializing in working with the medium of egg tempera, which facilitates the creation of intimate detail and the application of luminous layers of color. Her work has been featured in solo shows in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Holland, and Switzerland, as well as in group exhibitions across the United States. In 2012, the Michener Art Museum, Doylestown, PA, organized her solo retrospective, Hidden Realities. Seller Inventory # 002834
