Greene, author of Hang Time, gives us the remarkable second chapter in the Michael Jordan story, beginning with the day Jordan's father was murdered and following him for two years through basketball arenas and minor-league baseball dugouts. Rebound is the story of a man who seemingly had everything the world could offer, and then, in pain, left it behind in an effort to rediscover who he once was, and who he wanted to be.From AudioFile:
This idolatrous biography tells the story of Michael Jordan's hiatus from basketball, a self-imposed exile inspired, at least in part, by the untimely death of his father. A fast-paced jazz score introduces the first side, and the text is briskly and clearly recited by the author. The voice, a slightly nasal, Midwestern tenor, is reverential, but narrow in range. Occasional gaps in the time line suggest artifacts of abridgment. The presentation is otherwise unadorned with music or sound, creating a workmanlike, but listenable, portrait, less telling, however, than the cover photograph by Annie Leibowitz. For the true fan, this tape provides insight into the psychology of a great athlete. J.W. (c)AudioFile, Portland, Maine
