9780143057468: Trojan Odyssey (Dirk Pitt Adventure)

In his first adventure since the revelation that he’s a parent, Dirk Pitt must uncover the truth behind the myth of another long-lost father-figure, Homer’s Odysseus, if he’s going to stop a dangerous cult from reshaping the earth in their own image.

Fraternal twins, Summer Pitt and Dirk Pitt, Jr., are working to determine the origin of a strange brown tide infesting the ocean off the shore of Nicaragua when two startling things happen: Summer discovers an artifact, something strange and beautiful and ancient.  And the worst storm in years boils up out of the sky, heading straight for them and a nearby floating luxury resort hotel called Ocean Wanderer

The peril for everybody concerned is incalculable. And now that Dirk Pitt has learned he’s a father, he will stop at nothing to protect his two children. He rushes into the chaos, only to find that what’s left in the storm’s wake makes the furies of nature pale in comparison. For there is an all-too-human evil at work in that part of the world, and Summer’s relic may be the only clue to the man calling the shots. Whoever he is, he’s connected to a cult that believes the Celts, also known as the Achaeans, reached the New World millennia before the accepted history suggests. If he’s right, his ancestors laid the foundation for the work he will soon complete—and our world will be a very different place.

Though if Summer's discovery is to be believed, the world is already a very different place...

About the Author:

Clive Cussler is the author of many New York Times bestsellers, most recently The Spy and Lost Empire. He lives in Arizona.

From AudioFile:

This is possibly the last in Cussler's series of Dirk Pitt adventures. Pitt and his sidekick, Al Giordino, investigate the origins of a black tide, rescue those caught in a mega-hurricane, and puzzle over artifacts unearthed by Pitt's twin son and daughter. Scott Brick is excellent at conveying the excitement that builds in each chapter as heroes battle villains in continuous action fraught with danger. Characters' voices are well drawn for the most part, though Brick's French accent leaves a little to be desired. There's not much suspense here as the good guys always win and the evil-doers are vanquished, but an enjoyable listen nevertheless. Book Description Penguin Audiobooks. No binding. Book Condition: New. Audio CD. Dimensions: 5.7in. x 5.2in. x 0.8in.Long hailed as the grand master of adventure fiction, Clive Cussler has continued to astound with the intricate plotting and astonishing set pieces of his novels. Now, with a few surprising twists, he gives us his most audacious work yet. At the end of Valhalla Rising, Dirk Pitt discovered, to his shock, that he had two grown children he had never known about, twenty-three-year-old fraternal twins born to a woman who he thought had died in an underwater earthquake. Both have inherited his love of the sea: the girl, Summer, a marine biologist; the boy, himself named Dirk, a marine engineer. And they are about to help their father in the adventure of a lifetime. A brown tide is infesting the ocean off the shore of Nicaragua. The twins are working in a NUMA underwater enclosure, trying to determine its origin, when two startling things happen: Summer discovers an artifact, something strange and beautiful and ancient; and the worst storm in years boils up out of the sky, heading straight for them - and for a luxurious floating resort hotel square in its path. The peril for everybody concerned is incalculable, and Pitt, Al Giordino, and the rest of the NUMA crew desperately rush to the rescue, but what they find in the storms wake makes the furies of nature pale in comparison. For there is an all-too-human evil at work in that part of the world, and the tide is only a byproduct of its plan. Soon, the work will be complete - and the world will be a very different place. If Summers discovery is to be believed, the world as we know it is already a very different place. This item ships from multiple locations. Your book may arrive from Roseburg,OR, La Vergne,TN.
