Robin’s life is a mess. His father’s a tyrant, his mother’s disappeared and he’s just been tempted by the wrong girl ... He can’t stop the images flashing across his mind. What does Robin really know about his past? Are there clues in his own writing? And what secrets lie beneath the frozen forest? Love and loss. Mystery and madness. Paul Jennings’ first book for older readers is a stunning and original series of interwoven tales combining to tell the dark and ultimately uplifting story of a boy who dares to stare into the spider holes of his own mind.

About the Author:

Stig Wemyss is an actor, writer and the voice behind millions of children’s audio books. Well, not millions. Thousands ... Alright, more like hundreds ... He has a huge fan club. Bolinda Audio is constantly receiving letters from kids saying things like ‘Stig Rocks’ and ‘I love Stig’ and ‘Stig Wemyss is the best narrator in the world’. Of course we don’t show Stig all these letters, as he already thinks he’s the best narrator in the universe! Now that he is also the author of an exciting in-car audio entertainment series, The Tripp Diaries, he thinks he’s the best narrator and the best author in the universe. We think he is too, but let’s just keep that to ourselves!

From AudioFile:

Stig Wemyss is terrific as Robin, an Australian teen facing more than the usual pangs of adolescence--with a missing mother, a confused love life, and a terrifying father who arouses tormenting images of violence that pop up like writhing snakes in Robin's head. Wemyss is also great as the gruff father but is less consistent with the female characters. He puts a bit too much campiness into the readings of some of Robin's own short stories, which are meant to offer insight into the teen and to provide foreshadowing of the plot. Both author and narrator draw one into the setting; the Aussie ski lodge and the life-threatening blizzard that takes place there are chilling. Wemyss is quite a character in the interview with Paul Jennings that concludes the book. So the curious listener will hear the narrator's own voice and the author's. D.P.D.
