Whether building a ship from chairs and pillows, making a city out of blocks, playing with toys on the bedspread, or sailing a toy boat down the river to an unknown destination, the delights of childhood - past and present - converge in Robert Louis Stevenson's timeless verse. Boldly illustrated by the inimitable Max Grover, Where Go the Boats? gives a fresh look to a quartet of classic poems - and brings their lively joy to a new generation of children.

About the Author:
In addition to Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Scottish writer Robert Louis Stevenson (1850-1894) is also known for Treasure Island, Kidnapped, and A Child's Garden of Verses
From School Library Journal:
PreSchool-Grade 2-Grover brings his hip, contemporary style of illustration to four well-known poems by Robert Louis Stevenson. The artist treats readers to a lustrous display of bright, cheery acrylics that capture the poetic rhythm and activity of the verses. In "A Good Play," two boys make a sailboat on a set of stairs using sofa pillows and chairs and "go a-sailing on the billows." The pattern of green trees on a purple overstuffed chair is repeated in a young girl's vision of a mountain in her imaginary town by the sea in "Block City" and a green bedspread becomes green hills in "The Land of Counterpane." "Where Go the Boats?" depicts the journey of two toy boats launched in the country down a river that winds through a patchwork landscape and flows past a large city where urban children discover them. Throughout the book, the text is set off in brightly colored framed boxes that complement the luscious single- and double-page spreads. Celebrating imagination, Grover offers a rollicking, unsentimentalized vision of Stevenson's words and introduces today's youth to the poetry that has entertained children for generations.
