During the summer at his grandparents' farm, Fritz stumbles across some unusual rabbits

Wahl's story is more than a little slight, lacking a true storyline or plot. Spending the summer on his grandparents' farm, Fritz comes upon a special group of rabbits who have formed a club. He follows their footsteps to their home in the middle of a grassy hill. One of the rabbits sees Fritz peering in their window and informs him that the other rabbits are out looking for a new meeting place. Fritz offers his grandfather's shed if they let him become a member, which they do. The events are neither exciting nor imaginative. In addition, although Bower's watercolors are well executed, Fritz's head is disproportionate to the rest of his body, and his shorts appear to have been stuffed with five pounds of tissue; he hardly resembles a normal child. Even though the friendship between Fritz and the rabbits may be magical, the book falls flat. --Leslie Barban, Richland Co . Pub . Lib . , Columbia, SC
