KIRKUS REVIEW Dark Treasure (1954) was something of a predecessor to this. Its heroine, Lissa Spenlow of New York, becomes the friend of young Emmy Thatcher, the principal character here, who ""escorts"" her older sister Arabel from their country home to a teaching job in New York City Girls' school in the 1850's. Off amid the tears and protestations of their Aunt Hannah who thinks it ill becomes young women to have careers, the girls pioneer to find lodgings and a new life in the city. But Emmy has made a pledge to Aunt Hannah on the side- to look after Arabel and find her a husband. This she does through Lissa, a fellow pupil at Miss Fenwick's school and cousin to handsome young Andy, captain of the sailing ship Dauntless. After some exciting times and the expected romantic fall cute on the parts of Andy and Arabel, true love wins through.
