9780192617743: Fitness for Work: The Medical Aspects (Oxford Medical Publications)
This is the first book that combines current clinical practice and occupational health practice to provide guidance on the medical aspects of fitness for a wide range of medical conditions and occupations. The book addresses such issues as: Is the employee medically suitable for recruitment? Is the employee fit to return to his former job? If not, what would be a suitable job alternative and what limitations to normal employment should be imposed? Introductory chapters on services for the disabled and administrative and legal aspects precede the main chapters which cover a wide range of medical conditions, including cardiovascular, neurological, gastro-intestinal, hepatic, renal, and hematological disorders. Dermatology, orthopedics, locomotor disorders, AIDS, back-pain, diabetes, and epilepsy are also discussed.

Review:
"This edition of an occupational-medicine classic is welcome. It should find a place within easy reach on the bookshelf of physicians who are regularly engaged in determining whether their patients are fit to work at their usual or prospective jobs. This applies to all family physicians
and specialists who treat working adults." Tee L. Guidotti, MD, University of Alberta Annals of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (vol.28,no.7, Oct. 1995)

`Fitness to Work is comprehensive'

`This edition of an occupational-medicine classic is welcome. It should find a place within easy reach on the bookshelf of physicians who are regularly engaged in determining whether their patients are fit to work at their usual or prospective jobs. This book is an excellent guide ... provides
comprehensive, detailed, and authoritative guidelines for the practitioner, organized by category of disorder. The book is well-written, concise, and indexed ... it is readable and interesting.'
Tee L. Guidotti, University of Alberta, Annals of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (vol. 28, No. 7, October 1995)

" This book fills a niche and addresses (from disease categories) a topic on which family physicians are often asked for their professional opinions." Canadian Family Physician (August 1996)
