The Oxford Textbook of Critical Care is a single-volume, major reference book covering adult critical care medicine. The book includes two-colour diagrams and illustrations to aid clarity. There is also a CD-ROM version with additional graphics.
The major goal of this book is to provide an up-to-date reference that would be relevant throughout the world in a format that allows rapid access to clinically important information. Authorship has been drawn from recognized experts throughout the world, so that it will compete in the international
market and gain acceptance as a major reference.
The major difference between the Oxford Textbook of Critical Care and its competitors is the problem-oriented format of the clinical sections, providing a reference source related to the problems faced in everyday critical care medicine. Rather than using the classical chapter layout, the text has
been organized into short topics which will allow readers to focus their reading on particular clinical problems. Clinical topics are covered with reference to the basic physiological principles underlying critical care medicine. Where international differences exist, authors cover alternative
views.

Review:
" ... a comprehensive collection of topics that covers the range of problems experienced in a multidisciplinary critical-care unit. ... admirably covers not only the clinical aspects of critical care, but also unit design and management, medico-legal issues, ethics, monitoring,
pharmacotherapeutics, equipment, and procedural skills. ... appeal to a wide audience of critical-care practitioners, including consultants, housestaff, nurses, and respiratory therapists ... should be placed in the intensive-care unit, so that the information can be accessible at the bedside.... an
attractive discipline-based textbook ... " Annals of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (Aug 1999)

"... truly an important new reference and educational text in the field of Critical Care Medicine. ... one that should be added to the library of critical care departments. The format of the book makes it an excellent text for students studying for critical care examinations." Canadian Journal
of Anaesthesia (Dec 1999)
