Synopsis

A Little History of Canada offers an opinionated, concise history of Canada to be enjoyed by Canadians in search of a brief history of their country, travellers visiting Canada, newcomers to Canada who decide to stay, and anyone else interested in the history of this country.

In this overview, H. V. Nelles presents Canadian history as one of continous transformation. From the arrival of French and British traders and colonists who added new social elements to the indigenous societies of North America, to the reconfiguration of this huge territory under British imperial authority, through the integration of diverse colonies into a national federation, and down to the new, volatile political order that has emerged in the last sixty years, H. V. Nelles' interpretation of Canadian history offers a view of Canada constantly emerging, adjusting, and redefining itself.

A Little History of Canada provides an essential understanding of the main themes in Canada's transformation from a land of indigenous nations to the multicultural mosaic of today. For anyone who is interested in knowing how Canada developed into the nation it is today, this introduction is indispensable.
