Ecological genomics is an up and coming term broadly used to describe the application of genomics tools (high throughput sequencing, microarrays, quantitative PCR etc.) to solve questions of ecology. Its purpose is to increase understanding of the responses and interactions of organisms to the environment and to one another bu analysing genomic sequences, gene expressions and genome evolution. At the core of ecological genomics is the belief that the bewildering array of interactions between species and their environments can ultimately be understood in the same terms as the commplex interactions of genes and proteins at the cellular level.

`Review from previous edition In many respects this is a textbook for a discipline that is yet to develop. It should bring home to ecologists, however, that the study of genomes has immediate relevance to our field, and it illustrates the ways in which this advancing science can contribute to
the work and the questions that already engage ecologists.'
