9780199811779: Oxford Textbook of Psychopathology (Oxford Textbooks in Clinical Psychology)

While most abnormal psychology texts seem to aim solely for breadth, the acclaimed Oxford Textbook of Psychopathology aims for depth, with a focus on adult disorders and special attention given to the personality disorders. Now in its third edition, it has established itself as an unparalleled guide for professionals and graduate students alike. Esteemed editors Paul H. Blaney, Robert F. Krueger, and the late Theodore Millon selected the most eminent researchers in abnormal psychology to cover all the major mental disorders, allowing them to discuss notable issues in the various pathologies which are their expertise.

This third edition of the Oxford Textbook of Psychopathology is fully updated according to the DSM-5 and also reflects alternative, emerging perspectives in the field (e.g., the NIMH's Research Domain Criteria Initiative; RDoC). The Textbook exposes readers to exceptional scholarship, a history of psychopathology, the logic of the best approaches to current disorders, and an expert outlook on what researchers and mental health professionals will be facing in the years to come. With extensive coverage of personality disorders and issues related to classification and differential diagnosis, this volume will be exceptionally useful for all mental health workers, clinical psychologists, psychiatrists, and social workers, and as a textbook focused on understanding psychopathology in depth, as well as a valuable guide for graduate psychology students and psychiatric residents.

Review:

"This update of a now classic textbook remains an excellent resource on psychopathology as well as a very useful textbook for a psychopathology course." --Michael Joel Schrift, Doody's Health Sciences Book Review

"As they did in previous editions, Blaney, Krueger, and Millon have assembled a stellar group of active researchers to cover the field of adult psychopathology. The authors are internationally recognized experts in their fields and, as one would expect, the chapters are exceptionally rich in detail and describe the current state of research in each disorder. This welcome volume belongs on the bookshelf of every clinician, researcher, or student who is interested in adult psychopathology. It continues to stand as a model textbook of psychopathology." --Ian H. Gotlib, PhD, David Starr Jordan Professor and Chair, Department of Psychology, Stanford University

ACCLAIM FOR PREVIOUS EDITIONS:

"This book will enhance understanding of theory and research of the psychopathology behind major mental health disorders and their treatment options. ... What sets this book apart from others is the extensive coverage of personality disorders, and discussion of their psychopathology and treatment options. The editors are experts in their areas. ... Approaching each diagnosis from various perspectives without taking sides, the editors broaden the view of the audience." - Ozlem Uyar, Doody's Electronic Journal

"Finally, a collection of in-depth and up-to-date reviews of mental disorders in a single comprehensive volume. This textbook is a very welcome addition to the bookshelves of mental health professionals and others wanting a richly detailed understanding of psychopathology." --Robert H.
