Delta Willis searched for fossils alongside Richard Leakey for her first book, The Hominid Gang, Behind the Scenes in the Search for Human Origins, and organized Harvard biologist Stephen Jay Gould's first expedition in Africa. When China first opened to Western tourism, she joined Lindblad Travel to escort groups into the People's Republic. Willis crossed the Sahara with a London Zoological Society/WWF expedition which led to the establishment of the largest nature reserve in Africa. For over two decades a houseboat at the 79th St. Boat Basin was her base camp for travels to Papua New Guinea for a report on Birds of Paradise, to Australia's Northern Territory to see ancient rock art, and to New Zealand for a river rafting expedition for ABC-TV.
In 2005 she was elected as a member of The Explorers Club explorers.org where she is active on the Conservation Committee. More at deltawillis.com
