Some doctors may frighten women by telling them just how widespread osteoporosis is among older women. One in every two postmenopausal women is "diagnosed" with osteoporosis. The truth is, though, that even experts don't agree on exactly how much bone mass a woman has to lose before she should be diagnosed as having osteoporosis. And ways of measuring bone loss are notoriously inaccurate.
