Review:

An excellent, cutting edge book written by researchers that acknowledges the role that biology plays in communication while allowing students to garner an awareness of their own communication.

Sean Horan

DePaul University

Simply, this is the best introductory interpersonal communication book that I’ve read.

Alan K. Goodboy

Bloomsburg University

The “what can I do now” sections are great and I really appreciate the skills advice that is offered at the end of the chapters for the case studies! I think the information covered in each of the special theme sections is fascinating. This text encourages students to be cognizant of what they bring to communication situations and how to adapt their communication accordingly so they can be more competent communicators across a variety of interpersonal contexts. I’m excited for the book to be available!

Carrie Kennedy Lightsy

Indiana U/Purdue U

I would definitely recommend the text for an Interpersonal Communication Course. This text would perhaps be one of the first to really represent what an Interpersonal Communication course should focus on.

Trevor Fraser

Adelphi U

I do love assessments!  This text has interesting assessments. Very thorough follow-up discussions.  I just love these sections.

Laura Oliver

University  of Texas San Antonio

There’s definitely a need and a place for this text.

Kendra Burkey

Hesston College

Anything that helps us as human beings to understand ourselves and communicate more effectively with ourselves and others is useful, and I am intrigued by the possibilities of the personality approach.

Susan Hague

Delgado Community College

A refreshing interpersonal communication textbook emphasizing gender and diversity issues, communication ethics, grounded communication theory and interpersonal communication skill development.

Marshall Prisbell

University of Nebraska, Omaha

This textbook provides a unique approach to developing one’s interpersonal skills.  By combining natural science with social science theories, the authors are able to provide a more holistic approach to interpersonal communication than other texts currently on the market.
