St. Bonaventure of Bagnoregio's The Soul's Journey into God is a masterpiece of thirteenth-century Scholasticism. Unfortunately no comprehensive analysis of Bonaventure's seminal treatise exists that is accessible to contemporary audiences. Reinvigorating the medieval tradition of critical commentary for the twenty-first century, this book introduces readers to basic Scholastic concepts and arguments by expounding and evaluating Bonaventure's speculative system. Dillard also highlights the relevance of Bonaventure's thought for contemporary philosophical theology.

He is the author of Heidegger and Philosophical Atheology: A Neo-Scholastic Critique (2008) and The Truth about Mary: A Theological and Philosophical Evaluation of the Proposed Fifth Marian Dogma (2009).Review:
‘The author approaches the Bonaventure’s text with respect and with special attention explains places that are very easy to misunderstand.’ (Ivan Rohloff OFMConv Vol. 2, Issue 1, 2013 , Folia Petropolitana)
This study is a very useful and workmanlike addition to the literature on Bonaventure and his principal theological work, as well as a welcome contribution to the literature on Scholastic thought generally. [...] a book that is a delight to read and which would be a valuable addition to a student's library or even more advanced scholar dipping into Scholastic thinking for the first time. (Éamonn Gaines, Queen's University, Belfast Theological Book Review, Vol. 25, No.2, 2013)
