Early in 1885, Or nearly five years ago, the Cana dian Pacific Company took definite steps towards securing an independent entrance to Toronto and independent terminal facilities on the city front. The first step con sisted in the purchase of ground for station purposes, and before the close of 1885 a considerable portion Of the ground between York and Yonge Streets, south of the Esplanade, had been acquired.
