Excerpt from History of the Origin of the Free Methodist Church
But, though Methodism has changed its home, it has in no wise changed either its character or its mode of Opera tion. And hence, as it fled to the Free Methodists to escape the trammels of worldly associations, a time-serving policy, and the soul-sickening routine of a lifeless formal ism it could no longer endure; so will it in like manner abandon them, should the contingency ever arise, when it is no longer permitted to operate through their instru mentality in accordance with its own peculiar principles and purposes.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into a significant moment in American religious history ΓΆβ β the birth of the Free Methodist Church. The author, a dedicated preacher, argues that the Methodist Episcopal Church, once a beacon of spiritual revival, had strayed from its founding principles of Scriptural holiness. He contends that the church, burdened by slavery, had embraced worldly trends and abandoned its commitment to personal piety. The book chronicles the dissent within the Methodist Episcopal Church, the persecution of those who sought reform, and the eventual formation of the Free Methodist Church. The author exposes the church's failings through his own experiences, detailing its departures from doctrinal purity, its neglect of discipline, and the decline of its preaching and pastoral practices. He underscores the need for a new form of Methodism, one that is truly free from the trammels of worldly influence. This book offers a powerful and insightful examination of the struggles for religious purity and the emergence of new denominations within the context of a changing social landscape.
