Excerpt from Studies in Milk Secretion: XII. Transmitting Qualities of Holstein-Friesian Sires for Milk Yield, Butter-Fat Percentage and Butter-Fat
Three tables have been formed to Show the transmitting power of the sires for milk yield, butter-fat percentage and but ter-fat. These tables give the sires' names arranged according to the net increase or decrease of their daughters' yields over the yields of the dams. They present the sire's name, the num ber of his daughters from tested dams, the net daughter-dam difference in yield and the quartile divisions of the yields for both daughter and dam.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book studies Holstein-Friesian sires that have sired daughters who also completed yearly tests. The author creates a measure of the sires' abilities to transmit milk yield, butter-fat percentage, and net butter-fat. This numerical measure shows the difference in age-corrected yield of the daughter from the age-corrected yield of the dam. The author created tables that organize sires according to their net increase or decrease in their daughters' yields over their dams' yields. The tables categorize sires according to the quartile divisions of both daughter and dam. The information is also summarized to show the transmitting ability of sires to their sons as judged by the production of the sons' daughters as compared with the dams of these daughters. This book also contains pedigree analyses for different groups of sires to determine the effect of inbreeding, relationship, and specific ancestors. The conclusions of this book will be of particular use to breeders who want to understand the genetic factors that influence milk yield, butter-fat percentage, and net butter-fat in their cattle.
