Excerpt from The Doctrine of Limits, With Its Applications<br/><br/>But though these considerations appear to render such a work as the present desirable, they would probably not have been sufficient to induce me to encounter the labour and difficulty of writing it, if I had not thought that it would illustrate and promote the genuine objects of the study of Mathematics as part of a University education.
