A group of high-tech women--doers and thinkers par excellence--are having a profound impact on the emerging information and communications revolution. Bucking history and trends, these women of the digital elite are creating a community of prosperous women with the power and the will to create a future of their own choosing. This book profiles many of these women and details the contributions they are making to the emerging information revolution. It also highlights their insights regarding the scope and direction of the revolution. As John Barber and Wanda Brockington show so clearly, the glass ceiling in the tech world is porous and in some quarters nonexistent--the inevitable result when powerful women like these find themselves in a position to make the rules.

The ^IWomen of the Digital Elite^R have been chosen because they are the leaders of important enterprises helping move the information revolution forward. Or they are in positions of power in other spheres, like government or the media. Through their influence, they are helping shape not just the future of their own communities but the entire world. Women profiled in this book include: -Grace Murray Hopper, one of the first computer programmers. -Carly Fiorina, former Chairman and CEO of Hewlett-Packard. -Meg Whitman, CEO of eBay. -Former Congresswoman Constance Morella (R-MD), who created the Commission on the Advancement of Women and Minorities in Science, Engineering, and Technology. Each profile emphasizes the major contributions the women made to the digital landscape. And that's not all--the book also presents their thinking, insights, opinions, projections, predictions, and possible solutions to challenges facing us in the digital age. Each woman's story is, in its own way, an inspiration. Blending biography with insight, ^IWomen of the Digital Elite^R documents history as it is being made--giving readers a ringside seat.
