Review

remarkable and hopeful study of Iraq... Here, for a change, is an account ringing with conviction from the Iraqi point of view, not froma pundit or politician just returned from a quick tour. * CATHOLIC HERALD 23.10.09 * Addresses crucial questions neglected by the 2003 war planners on what Iraq should look like after the overthrow of Saddam Hussein's government. Drawing on a lifelong career in investment and finance, Kirdar sets out an ambitious vision of postwar economic reconstruction in Iraq.... essential reading for all concerned with the future of Iraq, the Middle East, and global peace and security -- Eugene L. Rogan, * Dir, The Middle East Centre, St Antony's, Oxf * An important part of this very important book concerns the potential leadership role which Iraq could play both economically and politically in helping to develop a more stable Middle East. -- Field Marshal The Lord Inge * Former Chief of Staff UK Armed Forces * Part memoir, part history and part a pragmatic roadmap, Kirdar's Saving Iraq, brings clear insight and valuable substance into the complex issues of restoring Iraq to the stable, prosperous and civil society it once was. -- DR HENRY A KISSINGER

Paperback. Condition: Very Good. Manifesto for the rebirth of Iraq, a country shattered by dictatorship and foreign occupation. In his passionately argued book, Nemir Kirdar inspires hope that Iraq can be rebuilt and can start to generate peace and prosperity in a conflict-prone region. Born in Iraq, he draws on recollections of his early life and shows how, in times past, the country was able to rise above the diverse composition of its populatoin, achieve unity under the rule of law, ensure equality and meritocracy, and strive for economic prosperity. All that ended in 1958 when army conspirators staged a brutal coup d'etat, seized power and drove the nation into a long, dark tunnel of dictatorshop, terror and destruction. Now Nemir Kirdar calls for anew generation of Iraqis to rise up, unlock the potential of their rich nation and achieve world-class standards of health, housing and education for all citizens. His hope is that the country of his birth can become a beacon of democracy, stability and prosperity. To this end, he presents an entire blueprint for political, economic and social renewal. The Iraq of tomorrow, he believes, should be united and secular, able to offer freedom, justice and equal opportunity to all its citizens, irrespective of their ethnic, religious or tribal affiliations. Saving Iraq is a book of global significance, offering rational steps towards a successful resolution in a nation that has suffered a tragic decline. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged. Seller Inventory # GOR005947878
