This helpful and user-friendly book provides a practical guide to the physical and emotional well-being during the premenopausal, menopausal and postmenopausal years. Based on the experience of a woman gynecologist who has been in practice for 20 years, the book presents thorough, unbiased answers to the questions women ask about this crucial time in their lives.

Mary Jane Minkin, M.D., is associate clinical professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the Yale University School of Medicine.
Written by a gynecologist affiliated with Yale University Medical School, this latest addition to the popular literature about menopause offers current, accurate information about women's health in the latter part of life. Minkin clearly explains the anatomy and physiology of menopause, the signs and symptoms and how to cope with them, and the role of hormone replacement therapy. While in favor of hormone replacement, she describes its strengths and limitations and offers alternative treatments, encouraging readers to choose the best therapy for them. Minkin also covers general healthcare, choosing a practitioner, nutrition, exercise, sexuality, women's cancers, osteoporosis, and gynecological surgery. Black-and-white illustrations and charts augment her text. A glossary, an extensive bibliography of current medical literature, and a brief referral list of associations complete the book. Although less detailed than Dr. Morris Notelovitz's Menopause and Midlife Health (LJ 6/15/93) and Dr. Miriam Stoppard's Menopause (DK, 1994), Minkin's work is easy to understand. An excellent addition for women's health and consumer health collections that need material on menopause.?Barbara M. Bibel, Oakland P.L., Cal.
