Synopsis
In the early 1980s, a concerted effort to reform American public education began. The impetus for these attempts was primarily economic. It did not take reformers long to make the connection between this economic impotence and the education system, nor was the potential for schooling to restore the economic pre-eminence of the United States ignored.
