Biography of American Revolution early leader Joseph Warren Warren was a physician from Boston who played a leading role in the early years of the revolutionary movement. It vwas Warren who enlisted Paul Revere and William Dawes to ride out to warn the citizenry of the British march toward Lexington and Concord. He joined the Massachusetts as a Major General and was killed at the June 1775 Battle of Bunker Hill; during the battle, he refused to exercise his rank, acting instead as a private soldier and died during the assult on Breed's Hill.
