Very Good Soft cover Text/BRAND NEW. Soft cover/VG w/ faint creasings to corner tips and corresponding bends to text corners. First published 1862; this edition carries an excellent introduction and notes by co-editors Smalley and Booth. Travel narrative of novelist Anthony Trollope's (1815 - 1882) whose extended vist to observe the "government and social life" of North America began with arrival in Boston in 1961. Other interests aside, perhaps feeling a need to evaluate, or rectify, his mother, Frances Trollope's picture of American life in her caustic Domestic Manners of the Americans (1832) written 30 years before. If his mother's account amused England, his account did not, chiefly because Trollope favored the cause of the North in the Civil War. A superb, and often entertaining, report.
