Reviews

A personal and vivid view of the Royal Air Force's (RAF) engagement of the Luftwaffe in World War II, this memoir by much-decorated Group Captain Dundas includes many of the famous names of the period like Douglas Bader and even German ace Helmut Wick (who may have been responsible for the death in combat of Dundas's brother John). The author's command responsibilities included flying in combat, evaluating new aircraft, and, when ground attack was part of the final phase of the war, developing new command methods. One of the youngest RAF commanders, Dundas engagingly narrates some of the conflict's most important events, convincingly conveying the feeling of size and space and the overwhelming motion of flight. Exciting, valuable, and good reading. Recommended.
