He stresses listening and showing respect as vital for dealing with most contretemps, but also includes last ditch emergency measures for the most intractable conflicts.

Lieberman (Get Anyone To Do Anything) outlines more strategies to help people get what they want from others even forgiveness. He believes that we do what we do to bolster our egos and argues that if we bolster other peoples' egos for them, then they are more likely to cooperate. For instance, Lieberman suggests that instead of snapping at someone who is criticizing us, we should instead ask for advice. He admits that engaging in such techniques takes practice and could be considered manipulative, but he asks readers to look at the larger picture: since they are being magnanimous, they are stronger, and since peace is gained, the way it was gained doesn't matter.
