About the Author



Janet E. Gardner, an associate professor of English at University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth, has published several essays on contemporary drama and pedagogy. She is editor of 12 Plays: A Portable Anthology (Bedford/St. Martin’s, 2003).

Beverly Lawn, Professor of English Emeritus at Adelphi University where she taught introductory fiction courses for three decades, has edited several textbooks on fiction and literature, including 40 Short Stories: A Portable Anthology (Bedford/St. Martin’s, 3rd edition 2009).

Jack Ridl, Professor Emeritus of English at Hope College, has published six volumes of poetry; his honors for teaching include the Michigan Teacher of the Year award from the Carnegie Foundation in 1996.

Peter Schakel, Peter C. and Emajean Cook Professor of English at Hope College, has published numerous scholarly and pedagogical studies on Jonathan Swift and C. S. Lewis; with Jack Ridl, he has co-edited Approaching Poetry (Bedford/St. Martin's, 1997) and Approaching Literature (2nd ed., Bedford/St. Martin's, 2008).
